Like the other poster, I got this at Macy's for around $33. It's the budget Fagor line. Apparently what this means is a few simple things:

1. it's aluminum, not stainless steel
2. it's 9", not 10"
3. it's old-fashioned
4. it works, but with some caveats

Let's take each of those in reverse:

4. Fagor knows what they're doing.

3. This means that the pressure technology is the old kind, where pressure builds up and starts rocking a little bobbin on the steam vent. This noisy constant buzzing if off-putting to some cooks, but you want to hear it because it means everything's steaming along.

Newer designs have dials and assorted pressure settings, that give you more control and allow you to release the steam instantly and safely. This one is lower-tech. When you turn off the burner, it slowly loses pressure (okay for beans and meats, not so great for veggies and seafood). To instantly release, you have to carry it to your... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Blew a gasket, August 28, 2010
This review is from: Casa Essentials Aluminum Pressure Cooker, 5 Qt.
I was thrilled to find a Pressure Cooker for this price ($35 @ Macy's). I had wanted one for some time, but not enough to cough up the $70+... So home I went to try it out. At first I thought it was awfully noisy, but the key there is turn down the heat until it barely makes any hiss. I tried lentils, garbanzos (pre-soaked), rice, and a bean soup blend from Henry's. They all worked great! It's really amazing how quickly these things cooked - I was hooked - until the silicone gasket tore on the 5th use (chicken) and now my $35 pressure cooker is a $15 saucepan... I'll call the toll free number in the manual tomorrow to see how much these gaskets cost - but I'm guessing they will be $10 each - so I didn't really saved much money in the long run... the gasket felt brittle where it tore, so I'm hoping they will warranty it for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars not worth the money, December 21, 2010
This review is from: Casa Essentials Aluminum Pressure Cooker, 5 Qt.
I purchased this pressure cooker for my son for his birthday and in less than 6 months the silicone ring had split and rendered the pot useless as a pressure cooker. The cost to replace this simple ring was $10.00 and they charge $8.00 for shipping and handling. I will not replace the ring, I will replace the pressure cooker with another brand.
